Where should I start reading the Bible?
Start with one of the Gospels, the four books that tell the story of Jesus. The Gospel of John or the Gospel of Mark are good first choices. Read a short section each day, in order, rather than opening the Bible at random.
Before you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand. Read slowly, twice if you can. Then ask three simple questions: What does it say? What did it mean to the people who first heard it? How should I respond?
You will not understand everything, and that is fine. Write down your questions and bring them to a mature disciple or pastor. The goal is not speed or covering a lot of pages. It is getting to know Jesus.
The 30 days on this site walk you through a reading plan, and the next steps page suggests what to read after day 30.
