Week 1 · Receiving your new identity
Day 7
Bring your thirst to Jesus
Before you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the passage and respond honestly.
Read
John 4:1-26
Read in the ESV ↗Read the whole passage slowly, twice if you can. Then come back here.
Reading the chapters alongside your first ten days? Today's is chapter 7: Assurance when you struggle.
Understand
Jesus speaks with a Samaritan woman across barriers of ethnicity, history, and social expectation. He knows the truth about her life and offers the life only he can give. As the conversation deepens, he directs her toward the Father and identifies himself as the Messiah.
You do not need to hide your history to know Jesus. He does not confuse loving someone with avoiding the truth. His grace makes honest relationship possible. The water imagery points to a gift deeper than temporary relief. Let the conversation draw you toward Jesus himself rather than treating him as a way to get everything else you want.
Pray
Jesus, you know my history and my needs. Help me bring my thirst to you honestly. Teach me to worship the Father in truth and receive the life you give. Amen.
Use this as a starting point, then speak in your own words.
Reflect
Where do you look for lasting satisfaction in something that cannot provide it?
Act today
Review days 1-7. Write one discovery about Jesus and one question. Share them with your companion or a trusted disciple. Ask that person to pray with you about one need, and pray for them too.
