Reading the chapters alongside your first ten days? Today's is chapter 6: Grace and a changing life.
Understand
Jesus speaks amid questions and opposition about his identity. He describes his sheep as those who hear his voice and follow him, and he promises them life and security in his care. Their safety rests in his power and the Father’s power.
This passage gives a disciple reason for confidence. It does not invite us to ignore Jesus while claiming his protection. Hearing and following describe relationship with the Shepherd; they are not a demand to achieve perfect performance before he will receive you. When fear comes, turn your attention to the trustworthy Savior and keep bringing your actual life under his care.
Pray
Jesus, thank you for caring for your people. Help me hear you through Scripture and follow you with trust. When I am afraid, remind me that my hope rests in you. Amen.
Use this as a starting point, then speak in your own words.
Reflect
What is the difference between trusting your Shepherd and trying to feel perfectly certain about yourself?
Act today
Write one truth about Jesus from this passage. When anxiety about your standing returns, read it and pray in response. If the same fear keeps overwhelming you, arrange a conversation with a pastor or mature disciple.
