Week 4 · Living as a disciple
Day 26
Bring suffering into prayer
Before you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the passage and respond honestly.
Read
Romans 8:18-39
Read in the ESV ↗Read the whole passage slowly, twice if you can. Then come back here.
Understand
Paul speaks of creation’s groaning, the believers’ longing, and the Spirit’s help in weakness. God’s children still suffer while awaiting final restoration. Their hope rests in God’s purpose and his love in Christ. The good God promises includes conformity to his Son and final glory; it does not mean every painful event is itself good.
You may pray honestly when you cannot explain what is happening. The Spirit’s help is especially precious when words fail. Jesus’ love is not disproved by hardship. A disciple can receive practical care and ask for relief while also trusting God’s faithfulness in circumstances that remain unresolved.
Pray
Father, you know what hurts and what I cannot understand. Holy Spirit, help me in my weakness. Keep me rooted in the love of Jesus and give me strength and help for today. Amen.
Use this as a starting point, then speak in your own words.
Reflect
Which part of the passage gives you room for honesty, and which gives you hope?
Act today
Tell a trusted person one real need and ask for prayer or practical support. If you know someone suffering, offer a specific form of care without trying to explain why God allowed it. Make room to listen.
