Week 4 · Living as a disciple
Day 27
Speak with gentleness and respect
Before you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the passage and respond honestly.
Read
1 Peter 3:13-17
Read in the ESV ↗Read the whole passage slowly, twice if you can. Then come back here.
Understand
Peter writes to believers facing opposition. He calls them to honor Christ as Lord, remain ready to explain their hope, and speak with gentleness and respect. Their conduct should agree with their words. Faithfulness may still bring misunderstanding, so a positive response is not the only measure of faithful witness.
Sharing your hope begins with reverence for Jesus and love for the listener. You can say what you know without pretending to answer everything. Your story should point to Christ’s death, resurrection, and grace rather than only describing a better mood or improved circumstances. The Spirit helps you speak; you do not control the other person’s response.
Pray
Jesus, help me honor you as Lord and love the people around me. Give me courage, gentleness, and honesty. Open an appropriate opportunity to explain why I am learning to trust you. Amen.
Use this as a starting point, then speak in your own words.
Reflect
What would you say if a friend asked why Jesus matters to you?
Act today
Write a three-sentence answer in your own words: what you were trusting before, what you have learned about Jesus, and how you are learning to follow him now. Keep it honest. Practice with a mature disciple and welcome their feedback.
