Week 3 · Following Jesus with his people
Day 19
Your presence and gifts matter
Before you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the passage and respond honestly.
Read
1 Corinthians 12:12-27; 1 Peter 4:10-11
Read in the ESV ↗Read the whole passage slowly, twice if you can. Then come back here.
Understand
Paul compares the church to a body made up of different members. He challenges both the feeling that you do not belong and the attitude that you do not need others. Peter calls disciples to use what God gives them to serve, relying on his strength.
You do not need a public role to matter to Christ’s people. Listening, hospitality, practical help, and prayer can build up a congregation. Gifts are entrusted for others’ good. Their use should express love and fit the church’s wise oversight. You are free to begin with a manageable contribution while continuing to receive care and learn.
Pray
Father, thank you for making each member of your people matter. Help me receive others' gifts without comparison. Show me how to serve faithfully with the abilities and strength you give. Amen.
Use this as a starting point, then speak in your own words.
Reflect
Are you more tempted to feel unnecessary or to act as though you need no one?
Act today
Ask a church leader about one suitable way to help. Explain that you are a new disciple and want room to keep learning. If you already serve heavily, consider whether you are also receiving teaching, rest, and support from others.
