Week 4 · Living as a disciple
Day 23
Look for the way to resist
Before you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the passage and respond honestly.
Read
1 Corinthians 10:1-14; Hebrews 4:14-16
Read in the ESV ↗Read the whole passage slowly, twice if you can. Then come back here.
Understand
Paul warns the Corinthians through examples from Israel’s history. Spiritual privileges do not justify careless confidence. He urges them to flee idolatry and trust God’s faithfulness in temptation. The promised way to endure temptation is not a promise that life will never feel overwhelming or that you can manage every hardship alone.
Hebrews directs you to Jesus, who understands temptation without having sinned. You may come for mercy and help. A disciple can admit vulnerability and use practical means of escape. Leaving a setting, asking someone for support, or removing access can be acts of reliance on God rather than signs of spiritual weakness.
Pray
Jesus, you understand temptation and offer help. Keep me from pride about my strength. Show me a faithful way to resist, and give me willingness to take it promptly. Amen.
Use this as a starting point, then speak in your own words.
Reflect
What early warning usually appears before a familiar pattern of sin?
Act today
Write a brief plan: When this warning appears, I will take this step and contact this person. Choose a realistic boundary, not just a promise to try harder. Pray over the plan and ask your trusted person whether they can help.
