Week 1 · Receiving your new identity

Day 2
A disciple comes and learns

Before you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the passage and respond honestly.

Read

John 1:35-51

Read in the ESV ↗

Read the whole passage slowly, twice if you can. Then come back here.

Reading the chapters alongside your first ten days? Today's is chapter 2: Knowing Jesus and abiding in him.

Understand

The first disciples meet Jesus through testimony, invitation, and personal encounter. They begin following before they understand everything about him. Their questions are part of the story. Jesus already knows more about them than they know about him.

Disciple is not a title for a Christian who has graduated to a higher level. A disciple learns from Jesus and follows him. These first followers would need patient teaching and correction. So will you. Their story invites you to bring real questions while giving Jesus your attention. You do not need to invent an impressive spiritual history or borrow someone else’s language to begin.

Pray

Jesus, thank you for inviting people to know you. Make me teachable. Help me bring my questions honestly and follow what I already understand. Give me people who will help me learn. Amen.

Use this as a starting point, then speak in your own words.

Reflect

What question would you most like to bring to Jesus right now?

Act today

Write your question in the space below. Share it with a mature disciple or pastor this week. Keep your daily Bible appointment even if the question remains unresolved; learning often grows through continued attention.
