Week 2 · Learning to abide

Day 10
Let Scripture teach you

Before you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the passage and respond honestly.

Read

2 Timothy 3:14-17; Psalm 119:9-16

Read in the ESV ↗

Read the whole passage slowly, twice if you can. Then come back here.

Reading the chapters alongside your first ten days? Today's is chapter 10: Sharing your hope and continuing to grow.

Understand

Paul urges Timothy to continue in the Scriptures he has learned. They point to salvation through faith in Christ and equip God’s servant for faithful living. Psalm 119 expresses a heart that treasures God’s instruction and asks for help to obey it.

The Bible does more than supply a comforting sentence. It teaches, corrects, and trains a disciple. Read with enough patience to hear something you did not expect. Learning a verse by heart can help you remember truth during the day, but memorization should preserve its meaning. Look at what comes before and after before deciding how to apply it.

Pray

Father, thank you for Scripture. Give me patience to understand it and humility to be corrected. Help me see how your Word points me toward Jesus and faithful living. Amen.

Use this as a starting point, then speak in your own words.

Reflect

Which purpose of Scripture in 2 Timothy 3 do you most need today?

Act today

Choose a short verse from today's readings. Read its surrounding paragraph, then write the verse reference and summarize its meaning in your own words. Carry that summary with you and return to it once. Memorize the verse if you wish.
